According to FanDuel Sportsbook predictions, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and the Brooklyn Nets will win the NBA championship at +195 odds (bet $100 to win $195) in the 2021-22 season. The second-best odds for the 2021-22 season are for Los Angeles Lakers at +600, followed by Giannis Antetokounmpo and this year’s champion Milwaukee Bucks at +850.
Unsurprisingly, the Nets are the obvious favorites. Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving played only eight regular season games together this season, because of the injuries, and because of that the team was in trouble. They still ranked No. 2 in Eastern Conference and led Bucks by 2-0 even without Harden.
But Irving sprained his ankle in Game 4 and finally ended his season, and Harden hobbled back in Game 5, but his condition was well below 100%. Durant scored 48 points in his heroic seventh game, forced overtime with a jumper, and was only one inch away from the triple pointer, which almost ended Milwaukee’s season.
If the Bucks barely won against the Nets who played the entire series without a fully healthy line-up of Big Three, then what chance do they have against the all-healthy Brooklyn team?
The Bucks certainly don’t want to lose the title, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that injuries played a huge role in this season. As the Lakers can prove, for example, Anthony Davis faced an injury against the loss to the Suns which was too difficult to overcome. Jamal Murray was not on the Denver Nuggets. Jaylen Brown was not in the Boston Celtics. The Los Angeles Clippers did not have Kawhi Leonard in the Western Conference Finals.
After the star players restoring their health and coming back to their respective teams will definitely affect the odds of winning, as will the offseason and free agents. Will Damian Lillard switch the team? Can Chris Paul and Leonard give up player picks and become free agents? Could they also change team allegiances?
Answers to many questions will be given. Many betting lines will be changed. But in the current situation, it’s hard to say that the Nets are an overwhelming favorite.
