This week, many top NBA players gathered in Las Vegas to train with the US team for the Tokyo Olympics. Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry participated in another sport in another part of Nevada. Curry, who participated in the American Century Championships this weekend, publicly explained why he was in Lake Tahoe instead of Sin City for the first time on Thursday.

“This is a difficult decision,” Curry said. “Based on this season and the tight schedule, and of course my position in my career, I admire the offseason and work on the court, but I play hard and many things can happen. It’s not for me. I am very confident in this decision. I do not regret it at all. Of course, when I play golf here, I have a lot of fun with my family. This is personal.”

In addition to the tight schedule and the necessary COVID19 log, Curry admitted that when analyzing his health before next season, he considered some injuries that plagued the NBA playoffs. He also failed to participate in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games as he wished because he couldn’t recovered from knee and ankle injuries.

“People are always eager to compete on the biggest stage, such as the Olympics, but this is not what I need, and time is also not right,” Curry said. The U.S. team opened their training camp in Las Vegas on Tuesday and intends to play seven games with other teams there before heading to Tokyo later this month.

Curry and his father Dell and his brother Seth together, will compete with more than 80 players, celebrities, and athletes this weekend, in Lake Tahoe. Its Curry’s ninth appearance in the annual championship, Dell is on seventh and Seth made his debut. Curry won the fourth place in three competitions including 2020. The spokesperson said that the Curry family is the first family in the 32-year history of the event to have three representatives at the same time.

“As an avid golfer, you can never play enough,” Dell Curry said. “As a parent, you can never play enough with your two children. Stephen like this game too. So we look forward to this week.”
