With five first-round picks in the NFL Draft 2022, Georgia’s defense breaks history

On the field, Georgia showed it, and Thursday night in Las Vegas, the Bulldogs were rewarded for their success. Five first-round draught picks from their defense, which averaged just 10.2 points per game, is a record for any college football defense in recent memory.

Edge rusher Travon Walker, the Jaguars’ first-round choice, told our sources before the draught: “I’d absolutely have to say we’ll be recognized as the best defense in college football history.” “They’ll definitely compare us to the Chicago Bears defense from back in the day from a college standpoint.” Walker is a difficult man to disagree with.

For the first time in 2018, Georgia had three first-round selections: eight-round pick Roquan Smith, 23rd-round pick Isaiah Wynn and third-round pick Sony Michel. Defensive tackle Jordan Davis, the first Georgia athlete to be drafted first overall since quarterback Matthew Stafford in 2009, was the second selection. Defense tackle Devonte Wyatt and inside linebacker Quay Walker were the Packers’ first-round picks, respectively. Safety, The Vikings, drafted Lewis Cline 32nd in the first round.

“You say we choose Devonte Wyatt, don’t you?” Quay Walker told Packers reporters, “Oh my god, that’s crazy. “I’m afraid I’m going to burst into tears.” It’s “about as near as you can get to the National Football League,” said Brian Gutekunst, the general manager of the Green Bay Packers.

Thursday night isn’t the end of the fun in Athens, Georgia. Inside linebacker Najobe Dean, the Butkus Award winner as the nation’s finest linebacker and possibly the most useful player on the explosive defense is projected to go early in the second round on Friday night. Wide receiver George Pickens is also expected to be taken early.

In total, 14 players from Georgia are expected to be selected in the draught. This “unique” assemblage of skill, according to Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart, is a rare thing indeed. “You don’t have 14 men in the NFL combine every year,” he said.
